report from the two jailed Canadians in Egypt
September 30, 2013
Hat tip, Bruce Ferguson. The story is HERE. Tarek Loubani and John Greyson were passing through Cairo en route to Gaza to make a documentary, got caught up in doing filming and medical assistance when shooting broke out in Ramsis Square near their hotel, and have now been jailed in Tora Prison since August 17, in conditions that you can read about in the story. Egypt needs to fix this problem immediately as it goes about trying to rebuild its international profile.
I’m back in Egypt for the first time since the curfew was imposed. My impression overall is that the city has a more upbeat feel than I would have expected; people are still out having lively fun, they simply can’t continue it past 11 PM, so the supermarkets suddenly swell with crowds shortly after 10 PM.
