Left #Tahrir. SCAF played it exquisitely; they keep (and maybe even expand) economical power, political control, and support from all sides.

(“SCAF” refers to the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces.)

I just read two news stories quoting military sources. The first said that coups are not part of Egyptian military doctrine. The second said that the 48 hours are meant to give Morsi time to write his resignation speech.

Note that these two statements are not incompatible, depending on how you define “coup.” The second statement was anonymously sourced and seemed meant to send a signal to Morsi and guide his interpretation of the earlier military communiqué.
