sad news from Iowa

It’s always difficult to start your day with news of a death, but this one was particularly hard. I don’t come from an academic family, and Don Cell was the first professor I ever knew– his son was one of my closest school friends. All the things I could never understand about his lifestyle when I was a kid are the exact features of my own life now (one of those many jokes that fate loves to play).
