USA Today on the Pyramids
June 3, 2013
I’m quoted a couple of times in this piece, HERE.
I’ll assume that the Minister of Antiquities is speaking in good faith, and is simply horribly misinformed about how bad it is out there now. In 13 years in Egypt, I’ve never seen such a dangerous atmosphere of harassment and criminality at the Pyramids. Cleaning up this situation needs to be priority #1 if Egypt recalls how important tourist money is to the economic health of the country.
Everyone in the world grows up wanting to visit Egypt someday. Egypt has that amazing built-in allure, and they’re letting it go to rot at the moment.
