Istanbul protestors apparently aren’t allowed to eat lunch

Just back from New York, so this is my first chance to post anything related to Turkey. I often stay near Gezi Park when in Instanbul, and am appalled by the decision to rip it up and replace it with yet another ridiculous mall that will no doubt simply funnel riches to government cronies. (The claim that this is about doing justice to Ottoman history insofar as the mall will look like the old Ottoman barracks on the site is patently absurd.)
