Lester Munson with another pair of gems

Munsonis ESPN’s legal analyst, and while it may be sad that sportswriting needs such a position, Munson does it wonderfully. Munson cuts through the public rhetoric on controversies and steers us towards the underlying facts.

His piece on the question of whether Erick Murdock attempted extortion against Rutgers University (in the case of the bullying videotape that –deservedly– cost basketball coach Mike Rice his job) is HERE.

Munson’s unpretentious good sense is refreshing. I met him briefly during my own brief Chicago sportswriting stint, and found him to be a refreshingly warm and open person as well. As I may have mentioned in this space before, I was also stunned by his knowledge of small college athletics in Eastern Iowa, the area where I come from.
