April 6 Movement *supports* Morsi’s reinstatement of power

July 10, 2012

Earlier, the failed Presidential candidates denounced the reinstatement of Parliament as an illegal move as part of a power struggle, and called for new Parliamentary elections instead.

Now, the April 6 youth movement SUPPORTS Morsi’s move.

I can understand both sides of this question, and as you can see, it has split pro-Revolution observers.

But I think I side with the Presidential candidates here. The dissolution of Parliament was nonsense, but the wiser and cooler-headed decision is not to confront SCAF and the Court openly, pretend that what they did was legitimate, and simply ask for new elections (in which SCAF-backed candidates will not win many seats anyway).

Doing it the way Morsi is doing it simply makes him look like he’s in a hurry to become a new sort of dictator. My two cents.
