the NY Times account of the speech

June 29, 2012

HERE.

And though I appreciate Kirkpatrick’s attempt to be balanced with the following statement, it’s not exactly true:

“Although it is all but impossible to find an Egyptian who supports either the 1993 or 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center, many are skeptical about the official American accounts of who was responsible for them or for other terrorist plots.”

It may be “all but impossible” to find an Egyptian in 2012 who will go on the record with an NY Times reporter as supporting the 2001 attacks, but there were indeed a certain number who supported them. I was in Egypt in 2001 and remember plenty of such people on the streets.

But Kirkpatrick is certainly correct that the far more common phenomenon is a conspiracy theory approach to the 9/11 attacks.
