not too early to start worrying about the President-elect, I guess

June 29, 2012

Just when I thought we had perhaps underrated Morsi’s political ear and willingness to moderate ideology in the name of ambition, we see this:

“At the end of his speech, Morsi referred to Sheikh Omar Abdel-Rahman, the blind Egyptian cleric serving a life sentence in the United States for a conspiracy conviction in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing. He said he wanted to work to free political prisoners, which he said include Abdel-Rahman.”

Abdel-Rahman is also known for his outrageous anti-Coptic conspiracy statements, and is generally beyond the pale in a number of other ways.

No, I don’t think it’s too early to start worrying. This really was a horrible runoff choice, wasn’t it?
