election results too early to be meaningful

June 17, 2012

But here is the very first set of a small number of results from Egypt:

10:15 The counts are in for five polling stations in Sohag, Upper Egypt, and Mursi is taking the lead. The Muslim Brotherhood’s candidate has a total of 4,333 votes against just 837 for Mubarak’s former PM.

As for the “if I were voting” question, my nose was initially held too tightly on both sides to be in the mood to vote at all. But after the recent round of court decisions, I guess I would have voted for Morsi. Never thought the day would come when I would imagine myself voting for a religious organization for the Presidency of a country I live in, but it was just too jarring to see what the Court did at the last minute like that.
