the big Egypt court decision is handed down
June 14, 2012
HERE.
1. Ahmed Shafik can still run for President a few days from now. A law had been passed by Parliament before the elections, barring any of Mubarak’s former Prime Ministers (including Shafik) from running for President, and the Court is only ruling on that law now, for reasons unknown to me.
2. Parliament has been dissolved (on the grounds that Parties disregarded rules and ran candidates for the one-third of seats reserved for independents; don’t ask me why that wasn’t noticed at the time of the Parliamentary elections, because I’m not sure).
