English language mirror site of ATMOC
June 11, 2012
Rather than linking to it directly, I will let Jon Cogburn introduce it himself, HERE.
ATMOC is the rather exciting metaphysics discussion group at the Ecole normale supérieure in Paris, a group with an interesting dynamic and tone where a number of new and promising trends are visible.
But above all, after all the talk about bridging the analytic-continental divide, ATMOC is probably the only group I’ve actually seen that actually delivers the goods in that respect. It was the place, for example, where I heard Tristan Garcia mention Badiou and David Lewis in the same sentence without the least trace of affectation and weave them together effectively. This single anecdote captures the general spirit of the group fairly well.
These are friendly, smart, mostly very young people who have a good thing going, and I would expect it to yield a great deal of fruit over the coming few years. I’m delighted that the LSU team is putting up the mirror site.
