two numbers for which I’ve never gained much of an intuitive sense

One is celsius temperatures. If I’m in Europe and they say it’s “34 degrees,” or whatever, I’m afraid I’ve never learned an intuitive sense of those numbers. They must think I’m weird as I stare blankly into space for a few seconds afterwards, not realizing that what I’m doing in my head is multiplying by 1.8 and then adding 32 before I express a reaction to what they just said about the temperature. I suppose I could train myself differently, but at this point why bother?
The other number that means nothing to me is when people try to dazzle you by saying how many square feet or square meters some piece of housing is. Even when stated in feet, the archaic system with which I grew up and was permanently imprinted, these figures mean nothing to me. I was just reading about how the suburban Denver mansion of Peyton Manning (American football star) is 35,000 square feet. That number was obviously meant to impress, but it means nothing to me whatsoever.
