Documenta, first day
June 6, 2012
It took a few hours simply to get oriented. Then I ran across Bombay artist friends Ashok and Shaina and their infant son, who has quadrupled in age since I saw him in India early last year.
Tomorrow there will be more activities to report. Today I only saw a few artworks; and mostly organizational speeches instead, which also had their moments.
If you’ve not been to Documenta before, it’s a bit scattered across various sites in Kassel, so you’ll spend your first day or two simply getting oriented.
They also have a Hauptbahnhof that isn’t really the Hauptbahnhof. I mean, all the trains going out of there seem to be local metro trains. You have to go to the suburbs to get anywhere in Germany that isn’t just a stone’s throw from Kassel.
The city is also quite spread out. I’d be doomed without the tram.
