an amusing Turkish proverb

I heard this recently from a Turkish citizen:

“The grasshopper jumps once… twice… but the third time, someone smashes him.”

If the point is unclear, it’s supposed to mean that people do not get away with things indefinitely. This makes for an interesting tension with my view that there are certain things that people do get away with indefinitely, and which form the core of their character.
