you know it’s not a good blog day when…

May 30, 2012

A large share of your blog readers are coming in from Twitter. That’s often a sign that someone is making some snarky link in a tweet.

But I don’t really know, because I’ve just never gotten into Twitter, and though I think I still have an account active, I almost never check it.

In principle, Twitter seems like a good idea. And I’ve found it utterly indispensable during the Egyptian political turmoil. Whenever big news is happening in Egypt, I do return to Twitter, and love how it enables me to find eyewitness reports from specific neighborhoods. It’s become fashionable to denounce claims that the Egyptian Revolution was a Twitter or Facebook Revolution, but I think those denunciations often have political motives that wrongly overshadow the obvious fact that Twitter and Facebook were major players in the events in Egypt.
