There is obviously a definite tendency in France to interpret speculative realism as an offshoot of Badiou. I guess that’s quite understandable, since Meillassoux happens to be the one original speculative realist who is French, and his relation to Badiou is clear enough. But some people are even reading Garcia’s ontology as an attempted renovation of Badiou’s, and that’s a lot less obvious, despite Mehdi Belhaj Kacem’s interesting claims on this point.

With respect to my position it’s too strong, to the point of being outright incorrect, to say that my position is an offshoot of Badiou.

Nonetheless, every context creates its own lineages, and I’ll be curious to see how this interpretative trend develops in France.
