*Pat Robertson* wants to legalize marijuana?

March 8, 2012

Maybe this is the sign of a tipping point, finally. I really couldn’t care less about drugs (my brain is already on drugs as it is). But as a first step, given that pretty much everyone in our vicinity has smoked pot at least once, let’s at least stop pretending that pot smokers are dangerous criminals. This has already been ridiculous for many years.

I’ve been waiting for a tipping point to be reached, and have long been surprised that the Baby Boomers could get deep into their 60’s and still allow marijuana to retain illegal status.

But now, HERE, even right-wing televangelist Pat Robertson is calling for legalization. That would have been completely unthinkable a short time ago, and would have ended his career in the 1980’s.

“Mr. Robertson has now apparently fully embraced the idea of legalizing marijuana, arguing that it is a way to bring down soaring rates of incarceration and reduce the social and financial costs.”

Exactly. Even Pat Robertson can reason cogently at times.

But actually, I shouldn’t just tease him like that. It does take quite a lot of courage for Robertson, given the nature of his clientele, to make such a statement.
