finally, I’m in the minority
March 4, 2012
On a CNN poll. First time in weeks that my vote has been to the contrary:
Would you pay extra to get more legroom on a flight?
No 60%
Yes 40%
Obviously, this is pretty much a simple matter of body type. 40% of people seem to have legs long enough that they are uncomfortable on most flights, and would pay for a better experience.
The least pleasant incident I ever had was some time within the past few months. I was on EgyptAir returning to Cairo from somewhere. The Egyptian woman in front of me did one of those very sudden backwards reclines that smashed my knees without warning. Then she turned around and started complaining that I was poking my knees into her back. I told her I hardly had a choice. She said I at least shouldn’t move my knees during the flight, because that felt uncomfortable to her. And so on. It was like a junior high school bus conflict. I would gladly have paid an extra $50 to avoid the likely artery damage that experience inflicted upon me.
