American dialects
March 4, 2012
We don’t normally think of the U.S. as having dialects as pronounced as those of Europe, and that’s surely true. But I was just reading about software that can pinpoint your U.S. location within 300 miles simply by reading your tweets. Anyone know where that is? I’d love to test it.
They were also talking about some other test they use to determine your U.S. location. One of the funniest questions was: “What do you call a drive-window at a liquor store?” People throughout most of the U.S. apparently haven’t even heard of such a thing, so it’s a dead giveaway if you have.
Where is that? I seem to remember we had those in New Mexico maybe, but I can’t remember the name for them. Or maybe it wasn’t even New Mexico.
