how Bonn will work

February 23, 2012

Some readers of this blog have applied for the Summer School in Bonn, and perhaps others are interested in how it will work. Here’s what I know so far.

The first three days will be spent on group discussion of some readings of Schelling, Derrida, and a bit of Meillassoux and Badiou.

The next five days will each be devoted to six hours at the disposal of one of the guest speakers. We’ve been told that we can use our six hours as we see fit, and that we’re supposed to provide a small packet of materials written by ourselves and/or others to serve as the basis for group discussion.

What I currently have in mind, along with including a short piece of my own, is to look at the Monadology, Heidegger’s essay “The Thing,” and an excerpt of 20 pages or so from Tristan Garcia. (Probably the Introduction to Forme et objet, which I’ll just translate myself.)

Those should be good soup ingredients for a nice day on objects.

I hope to see many of you there.
