Hamza Kashgari under threat

February 13, 2012

You can read the story HERE about how the young journalist was deported from Malaysia back to Saudi Arabia, where he faces a possible death sentence for apostasy. The story linked to above explains why.

I know little about Kashgari. But he happens to be a friend of a friend of mine, and more importantly, of course there should not be death sentences (or any criminal punishment or even social stigma) for expressing religious doubt. I’m afraid I have nothing counter-intuitive or paradoxical to say about this. Sometimes, it is important to state the obvious.

Earlier today I read that there is an actual Facebook group calling for his execution [!], and if memory serves, it already had something like 13,000 members.
