a bold new era in spam

January 15, 2012

Nice computers they have now:

“The reason I email you again is that today I have read your publication I am also of the opinion that materialism must be destroyed and knew you may need peptides in your research. We pay high attention to the cooperation with you. In order to show our sincerity, we would like to offer you 30% off discount in our price list http://www.chinapeptides.com/list.htm. And we accept you do the payment after the delivery.”

Yes, peptides are just the thing I need to argue further against Ladyman and Ross: a truly empirical approach, rather than the mere “armchair” method of my article itself.

But on second thought, why do I rush to assume that this is a new approach to automatized spam? Perhaps this is a personal email from an individual human who truly read the article and happens to be so completely unhinged as to think that peptides would be of use to me. And who is really a guy named “James” living in China who prefers to deal with me on the website rather than receive an email directly from me. That’s a more interesting possibility in many ways.
