Lester Munson on Tuesday’s Sandusky hearing
December 12, 2011
ESPN’s lawyer/sportswriter Lester Munson again shows why he’s among the best in the business in THIS PIECE about ex-Penn State assistant coach and accused child molester Jerry Sandusky.
You actually learn from Munson’s writing. He communicates new and unexpected information in every piece he pens, and his analyses really do bring clarity to whatever he writes about. And he also turns out to be correct in his assessment of situations a large proportion of the time.
Here, he thinks the Pennsylvania law that requires the accusers to show up for Sandusky’s preliminary hearing will play into the hands of the defense. (Though at this point it’s hard to believe much of anything will play into Sandusky’s hands to too great an extent. There are just too many victims lined up, willing to testify against him.)
Munson calls it “arguably the worst scandal in the history of sports.” It may well be the worst. The other prominent ones all involve sports cheating, which is of limited impact when compared with the actual child sex abuse felonies of which Sandusky stands accused.
