more military defectors

There are a growing number of anti-SCAF officers and soldiers joining the Tahrir protestors. I don’t think we’ve reached critical mass yet, but no doubt many in the Army are disgusted by being ordered to stand idly by and watch the Interior Ministry brutalize the populace.

In grimmer news, I just saw activist Gigi Ibrahim tweet that we have our first electoral candidate murder– an independent candidate knifed to death in Heliopolis. [ADDENDUM: Luckily this turned out to be incorrect. The candidate was stabbed, but survived.]

Luckily for Sandmonkey (Mahmoud Salem), he has good security that was able to fend off one attack on him already. I can’t imagine he’ll be permitted to win his seat, given that he was just kidnapped him from the street in February, but he certainly has much enthusiastic support.
