entrance to Mohamed Mahmoud Street
November 25, 2011
Just back from Tahrir Square, which is festive and entirely under the control of the populace. No one in uniform for blocks.
Here’s the entrance to Mohamed Mahmoud Street, currently blocked by a line of people whose identity is a subject of much speculation.
That’s the AUC Tahrir Campus on the right. Since the Blackberry camera isn’t very good with distance shots, you can’t make out the new wall very well. It runs across the street about two blocks down from here, and is surprisingly tall.
[ADDENDUM: The banner says “Eyes of Freedom Street,” which is what the protestors have renamed it, following security police high-fiving each other for aiming at, and hitting, people’s eyes with rubber bullets. One protestor lost one eye in January and the other eye this week.]
