motorcycle evacuation

November 23, 2011

This NY Times photo shows exactly what I was seeing down there last night. When the injuries are especially severe, the wounded protestor is either on the lap of the passenger or thrown over his shoulder.

This is Mohamed Mahmoud Street. They are passing a branch of Cilantro Café, which is sort of like the Egyptian Starbucks. Background in the distance: the old AUC Library. That’s exactly where I was walking, coming up side street Yusuf El Gindi towards Mohamed Mahmoud, when the gas hit last night.

I love the WWI gear on the driver. When you see someone in Tahrir with full gear like that, you know they’re doing something important.

General demography of the protestors, from what I saw last night: brave and idealistic young kids, not the criminal riffraff denounced by the generals.
