new philosophy position in Cairo

I’ve been given the OK to post this ad here, though it’s not quite out in the official places yet.

We advertised earlier for a position that was technically “open,” but which really was going to heavily favor an Islamic Philosophy specialist (we really need one more).

But now we have an altogether new line that really is “open.” Here is the ad, just as it was sent to me.

Founded in 1919, AUC moved to a new 270-acre state-of-the-art campus in New Cairo in 2008. The University also operates in its historic downtown facilities, offering cultural events, graduate classes, and continuing education. Student housing is available in both downtown Zamalek and New Cairo. Among the premier universities in the region, AUC is Middle States accredited; its Engineering programs are accredited by ABET and the Management program is accredited by AACSB. Job Description: The American University in Cairo (AUC) announces a second new tenure-track position in Philosophy, to begin in fall 2012. The successful candidate will be expected to pursue an active research agenda. Teaching experience an asset but not required. English is the language of instruction. Normal teaching load is three courses per semester, with two preparations, as most philosophy faculty teach two sections per semester of AUC’s freshman/sophomore level Philosophical Thinking course. Generous research and conference grants, release time and a pre-tenure leave are available in support of research efforts. For both positions: AOS: Open, AOC: History of Philosophy. For the first position (advertised previously), applicants with strong records of interest and achievement in Islamic philosophy were especially encouraged to apply. The second position has no pre-determined research focus; applications from all qualified individuals are welcome. Applicants for the first position will remain under consideration for the second.
