longest flight in the world

October 26, 2011

Recently I was having a conversation with someone, I don’t remember where or with whom. I casually mentioned that the longest commercial flight in the world is Chicago-Hong Kong. They disagreed and named anther one.

Whoever this person was, they were exactly right. The Chicago-Hong Kong flight was the longest in the world. I was correctly remembering the story I read. However, time flies, and that was in 1996. Chicago-Hong Kong, to my astonishment, has now fallen into 22nd place on the “longest flight” list, at a mere 15 hours and 25 minutes.

The longest is a miserable sounding Newark-Singapore flight, which runs to a brutal 18 hours and 50 minutes. I would go insane. In fact, I will never agree to such a flight if offered it. I’ll demand a stopover somewhere: Japan, or wherever.

The longest flight I ever took?… Well, Dubai to Seoul was fairly long, but I think Lima to Madrid was the worst. 12 and something hours, if memory serves.
