lovely morning for a flight

October 21, 2011

January/February is the best time to be in Cairo. (And no one has said much about the meteorological fact that the revolution in Egypt was in January and February, but it makes sense. It’s physically the most comfortable time of year to spend a lot of time outdoors. In retrospect, if I had had to predict the time of year when a revolution might start in Egypt, it probably would have been mid- to late January.)

But October is pretty good too, and again I suppose it’s not too surprising that Egypt launched the 1973 War in October. (That was timed for Yom Kippur, of course, but I can also imagine that the generals had the comfort of their army in mind. There are times of year here when it’s too miserable to do anything outdoors.)

But it’s a nice day for a flight, and I love flying out of Cairo on Friday mornings. No traffic at all en route to the airport.
