whee… whee… welcome to Chicago, Theo Epstein!

It’s not finalized quite yet, but ALMOST.

As I was saying on Facebook, as a Cubs fan I am reduced to grasping for four-leaf clovers and rabbit’s feet, and Epstein is both rolled into one.

Critique his recent flopped signings all you want, but come on… he won two World Series with the Boston Red Sox! That’s the Babe Ruth Curse Boston Red Sox.

True, I was excited about Dallas Green and Jim Hendry in this job as well (and they did make progress in both cases). I was never actually excited about Andy MacPhail, and Jim Frey (in the words of Bill James) was a fool from the start. There was also Ed Lynch, whose firing led my friend Jim to order pizza for everyone at work.

But Theo’s an even luckier charm than Dallas Green (whose credentials were being field manager for the Phillies for their first World Series win ever in 1980.)

Yeah, Theo’s our guy, and we don’t even need two World Series: I’ll die happy with just one, which my grandfather certainly never lived to see. And, we still have the cutest logo in the history of sports–- just not sure whether I like this white one or the other blue one better.
