fighter planes

October 6, 2011

Rushing through the skies of Zamalek. I assume (or I hope, at least!) that this is for the Armed Forces Day celebration.

The strangest thing about fighter planes as an object of the senses is the way that their sound is very intensely loud, but then very quickly disappears without the sense of a fade.

Generally, I don’t think these things should be flying over populated areas. During my Chicago years, they used to do the craziest Blue Angels airshow stunts directly over downtown Chicago, instead of over the big empty lake a few hundred meters away. I certainly hope that practice has ceased since 9/11, though somehow I doubt it. How would we feel if one of them crashed into a hospital or school?
