scientism

“…something about scientism creates very ugly people. I’m all for pushing back against burning witches and holding them responsible for the black plague and not kicking gay kids out of your house for religious reasons, but c’mon, do people who fight these things have to be such abrasive asses?”

If you think you have some sort of privileged direct access to truth, and conclude accordingly that anyone lacking such access is a retrograde and obscurantist fool, then your general attitude is unlikely to be very pleasant.
