The Decorum of Objects

September 12, 2011

Jim at Clinamen posts HIS FORTHCOMING CONFERENCE PAPER on object-oriented rhetoric. I’ve only had time to scan it, since I’ve just returned from a meeting at Columbia and need to get downtown quickly.

Why didn’t I just go from Columbia straight downtown? Because, like a fool, I went back into Book Culture and bought a bunch more stuff. Can’t carry that around all day, so I had to return to Washington Heights to drop it off.

The really dangerous thing about the Book Culture store is their remainders section on the stairway. They have incredibly good new hardcover books for, say, $5 apiece, and so much of it is irresistible that you have to choose carefully.

But while the price is no problem on these books, the weight is a problem, given the recent draconian weight restrictions on luggage by the airlines. I’m sure my luggage is overweight now, and I’ll surely have to pull a lot of the books out at check-in and carry them aboard.
