the positive side of blogs

Dan Remein, in his introduction to my talk last night, referred to me as “a new sort of public intellectual”– not by weighing in in the media on events of the day as used to be the case, but simply by sharing a lot of information right here.

Much obliged, Dan. Blogopolis has its bad side; some of the most villainous people I know are bloggers or blog commenters. But there is also much to be learned here, and I know from email and conversation that this space has been a big help to hundreds of younger people in the profession. That’s why it will continue.
