on Lovecraft’s “piping voice”

September 10, 2011

Jordan cites this reminiscence by Lovecraft’s ex-wife Sonia Greene:

“His voice was clear and resonant when he read or lectured but became thin or high-pitched in general conversation, and somewhat falsetto in its ring, but when reciting favorite poems he managed to keep his voice on an even keel of deep resonance. Also his singing voice, while not strong, was very sweet.”
