Liechtenstein
July 30, 2011
Liechtenstein just came up in conversation (it’s one of a handful of places in Europe I haven’t been yet).
Recently, someone was telling me he was there in the late 1960s or early 1970’s. He says he went into the post office, rang the bell, and out came the Crown Prince himself to help with his postal needs.
Having noticed some posters up for the Communist Party of Liechtenstein, he asked the Crown Prince what the Party’s platform could be in such a tiny country. The response was that they had two demands: 1. Addition of a traffic light at a certain intersection. 2. U.S. out of Vietnam.
I like that combination of local & global thinking.
