framed for robbery

At breakfast this morning I was fascinated by THIS TIMES STORY about a guy in New York who nearly succeeded in framing his estranged girlfriend for a series of nonexistent armed robberies.

The poor woman has been through a tragic period, but there’s still something almost comical about how easy it was to come close to pulling this off. The planning was not quite as diabolically ingenious as the story suggests. Granted, the police have a lot of cases to investigate, but I think the woman’s lawyer has a point that this should have been checked a little more thoroughly before throwing her in jail for *7 months*.
