no wonder I couldn’t find this one

[ADDENDUM: I now believe this was an incorrect inference on my part about the street names changing. It looks as though the house was literally moved, in 1959, an option that hadn’t occurred to me when seeing the change of address referred to somewhere.]

The manuscript of “The Call of Cthulhu” has 66 College Street listed as Lovecraft’s address at the time. Not only could I not find that dwelling yesterday or today, but it would be somewhere right in the middle of the Brown campus, and even if there had been a renumbering, there aren’t too many livable edifices on College Street to choose from.

Turns out that in this case it was more drastic than a renumbering– the street names changed. The “College Street” on which Lovecraft lived is not the same as today’s College Street. He actually lived at what is now known as 65 Prospect Street. Now that I can find. It’s just up the hill from me, and Prospect is possibly the most beautiful street in Providence.

Does the house look scary to you?
