Lucian Freud dies

The painter and grandson of the psychoanalyst died yesterday in London at 88. HERE.

He has generally been a lot less popular in the USA than in the UK. Maybe Francis Bacon helped prepare people in the UK to appreciate him, or maybe it’s something else.

As for me, I’d say that many of Freud’s paintings give me the heebie jeebies, but there is also some freshness there that deserves to be appreciated.
