another thing I love about Iowa City

The noon whistle, with its throwback steamboat/steam train sound.

But it just went off at 1 PM instead. They may have forgotten to reset it after daylight savings time took effect.

Or alternatively, it may always have been a 1 PM whistle here, and I’m confusing it with the noon whistle in Mt. Vernon.

In any case, this is one of those useless archaic customs that I hope we keep forever.
