resolved

The kitten mini-crisis is solved, but none of it played out as I expected.

First, she wasn’t angry, sad, or worried at all throughout the night. She was just moving in slow motion, at maybe a third her normal speed. It was both weird and interesting. Obviously it makes perfect sense that an animal would be able to shift metabolic gears depending on food supply, but I’ve never seen it happen quite so dramatically as that. It was a personality change, but only a change of speed, not of tone or attitude.

Second, she was happy to get the milk finally this morning, but didn’t devour it quite as aggressively as I would have thought. Maybe she really didn’t need it as badly as it seemed. She did eat a bit of dry food, to my surprise (even though I’d been told she probably would). Sami also thinks she could lick milk from a bowl right now, though the vet said two more weeks.

In any case, this is a great relief. I made sure to buy two little bottles this time. No doubt she’ll have graduated to grown-up feeding habits by the time these two bottles are destroyed.
