Obama will be re-elected

March 24, 2011

In early 1995, one friend told me there was “no way” Clinton would be re-elected. I said he would be, for one simple reason: the Republicans had no candidate more interesting to the populace than Clinton was. Despite Clinton’s thumping in the 1994 Congressional elections, that turned out to be the right way to look at it. Dole was a bore, and never had a chance against Clinton.

Reading THIS ARTICLE, I’m feeling a replay coming on. It became fashionable some months ago to call Obama a one-term President. I don’t see it. Who’s going to beat Obama?

Mitt Romney? Huckabee? Newt Gingrich? Sarah Palin? Ha!

Every conceivable Republican candidate has some flaw or other, and the fact of the matter is: people basically like Barack Obama. I realize that supposedly a “growing number” of Americans think he’s a secret Muslim, etc. etc., but I’m not convinced that’s anything more than just hotheaded talk to pollsters. I expect a solid Obama victory in 2012, barring some sort of immense scandal or a second economic collapse at just the wrong time. The Republicans just don’t have a good candidate. It’s 1996 all over again, with the one difference that there’s no heir apparent as Dole was in ’96, so the competition may be a bit more stiff on the Republican side.
