NY Times digital subscription email

Many of you probably received the same email. The days of mostly free content at the NY Times website are almost over.

I can’t say that I blame them. Newspapers have taken a terrible financial beating during the WWW era. (Why should any of us pay for anything when we don’t have to do so?) We need a strong investigative press, and they have to be paid from somewhere.

However, I’m still not at the point of being automatically ready to give them $35/month for the package I would want. (Or maybe it was $30, I can’t remember which.) Then again, that may change once I find that I can’t read any articles that I want to read.

Everyone will get a free 20 articles per month even if they don’t subscribe, so you can still read 2 articles every 3 days. But that isn’t much.
