large group dinner
February 24, 2011
It was a large group dinner tonight, Mexican haute cuisine at a hotel just a stone’s throw from Mubarak’s former palace. We were all the guests of a very generous person who wanted to thank us for help on something (though I don’t think I was much of a help at all).
Everyone spent the first 20 minutes talking about Libya, all were in agreement on the essentials, and I took this as tacit permission to be a bit distracted and check the news feed on my phone at regular intervals. Egyptians have been politicized in a very positive way in the past month. (And incidentally, tomorrow will mark just one month since the beginning of the demonstrations.)
It seems like there were no turning points of any kind in Libya tonight, but the “anti-” contingent seems to have time on its side now.
