Egypt requests freeze on Mubarak’s assets
February 22, 2011
All in all, THIS DIDN’T TAKE LONG, though the title “Egypt freezes Mubaraks’ assets” is misleading: the story is about requesting that assets abroad be frozen.
Egypt is actually doing fairly well with the transition. I’ve had my gripes, but progress is being made.
And I can tell you this: there’s no comparison between the free speech climate now and what it was like a couple of months ago. Now, people pretty much just say whatever they want. Apparently the talk shows here, which I don’t watch, are awash in grave accusations against people who still have a fair amount of power. The military is perhaps being flattered a bit too much, but when you compare their behavior with that of Libya’s military, it’s little wonder.
