where OOO books sell

February 18, 2011

Where mine sell, at least. This is one of the fun things about Amazon Author Central, which gives authors direct access to Nielsen figures.

1. New York (nearly triple the number of city #2)
2. Austin, TX
3. Los Angeles
4. Chicago
5. Baltimore
6. Denver
7. Twin Cities, MN
8. Philadelphia
9. Greenville/Spartanburg/Asheville (yes, counts as one area)
10. Bay Area, CA

Hooray for Austin.

I’ve spent a fair amount of time there, actually. First I was very close to somebody who lived there. Later, by complete chance, my brother moved there and stayed for five or so years.

The only two things I don’t like about Austin:

(a) too much of a car city

(b) murder on allergies; you’ll go through at least one box of Kleenex per week when you’re there

Also, though I’m not especially alarmed by scorpions, if you are then Austin may not be the best place for you. Certain neighborhoods, anyway.

My eldest nephew was so used to spotting scorpions crawling through his playroom that when he first saw the scorpion icons in the old Atari Pitfall video game he burst into hysterical laughter.
