on the looted items at the Egyptian Museum
February 17, 2011
This is a few days old, but I’m just catching up with it now: an assessment of THE STOLEN ITEMS, with comments by Zahi Hawass and AUC’s own Salima Ikram.
The point seems to be that the items stolen were carefully targeted. They’d certainly be difficult to sell, however.
It’s most unfortunate that the Museum happens to be right in the heart of where the action was. In a few years they’re planning to move it out to the Pyramids, about half an hour to the southwest.
