another decree from the military

They’re supposedly going to allow protests but not allow labor union activities. Reuters Africa:
CAIRO Feb 13 (Reuters) – Egypt’s new military rulers will issue a warning on Sunday against anyone who creates “chaos and disorder”, an army source said.
The Higher Military Council will also ban meetings by labour unions or professional syndicates, effectively forbidding strikes, and tell all Egyptians to get back to work after the unrest that toppled Hosni Mubarak.
The army will also say it acknowledges and protects the right of people to protest, the source said.
I’m glad they’re going to protect the right to protest. But the strict ban on trade union activities sheds some light on where the real problem in this society can be found, and on a possible major flashpoint as the situation continues to unfold. Something will simply have to be done about Egypt’s poor, and I don’t mean shooting rubber bullets and tear gas at them when they go on strike.
