Nature interviews Hassan Azzazy
February 9, 2011
Here’s a fascinating interview with my AUC colleague Hassan Azzazy, a leading hepatitis researcher who is now Associate Dean of Sciences and Engineering. He’s disgusted with scientific research conditions under the current regime, and pulls no punches in the interview (this is already a huge change compared with how people used to talk in Egypt; the fear really is gone):
“NATURE: What is your assessment of the Mubarak regime’s track record in research?
AZZAZY: What record? I am not sure that a government that uses plain-clothes police and thugs to crush protests and kill peaceful protesters would even understand what scientific research means.”
